Memento

Memento is about a man who is suffering from short-term memory loss, uses notes and tattoos to hunt for the man he thinks killed his wife. In the movie is find the color difference very interesting. Memento was presented in two different ways, a series in black-and-white that are shown chronologically, and a series of color sequences shown in reverse order. I found this to be very creative and reminded me of Slaughterhouse five; How he always talks in present but then has memories of the past.

 

A member of a group

To be another: I have been a part of a group once or twice. I am in HOSA and a few people had to get together and make a thank you sign for people that have donated money to us. I decided to take part in this group and help make the signs. The signs were huge and it would have took all night if just one person did it all by him or her self. It was nice to work on something together as group; when it is done we all got to give ourselves a pat on the back for what we have created. It was a fun time too (:

True West Analysis of Characters

Austin

Austin is a screenwriter with a simple life; house, family and producer! As True West starts Austin is doing "research" for a screenplay he is writing. He thinks of himself as a simple laborer, with a simple life and a simple family--until his brother, Lee shows up! At the start, they tend to butt heads a little...Austin is square and he knows it. However, there is a slow transformation in Austin's character that charts the evolution of the play as a whole. The failure of his movie deal makes Austin become more and more like his rambunctious brother, and eventually, the two effectively switch roles. Instead of the hardworking screenwriter, Austin actually becomes the drunken thief. Lying drunk on the floor, Austin screams at Lee while Lee is trying to write a screenplay. Austin also becomes obsessed with the idea of moving to the desert with Lee, as he is no longer able to take solace in his normal life. When Lee tries to go the desert without Austin, Austin strangles Lee with a phone cord, almost killing him. From a symbolic point of view, Austin can be seen as one half of the creative process. He is the methodical, diligent aspect, while and Lee is the creative, inspired side. Together they form the basic ingredients of an artist and together they are able to write the beginnings of a screenplay.

Lee

Lee is the play's representative of the Old West. He is a drunk, a thief, prone to acts of violence, and generally combative in most situations. Before the action of the play he spent a few months out on the desert with a fighting pit bull. However, Lee is also the comic center of the play. His nagging is a hilarious counterpoint to stuffy Austin. At first, Lee seems to exist only to make his brother's life a living hell. He refuses to let Austin get any work done, then demands the keys to Austin's car to make the rounds of their mother's neighborhood to check out the houses he intends to rob. Furthermore, the physical threat Lee represents becomes evident when he suddenly lunges at Austin during an argument about their father near the beginning of the play. From that point forward there is almost an electric tension of the threat of further physical violence.

Lee is not only a physical threat to Austin, however. He also weasels his way into a movie deal with Austin's producer, and actually manages to pull the rug out from under Austin's project. Lee pulls this off through a bit of gambling on the golf course with the producer. After he seals the movie deal Lee begins to pull another coup, becoming more and more like his brother Austin. Night finds Lee sitting at the kitchen table pecking away at the typewriter with one finger, while Austin pesters Lee just as Lee had done to Austin. Eventually, however, Lee regresses, realizing that the respectable life is not the one for him. His decision to go back to the desert is not a surprising one. Lee is the most constantly surprising and vivid characters in the play, and the catalyst for most the action and the laugh track as well.

Perks of Being a Wallflower

In College lit, I am reading a book called Perks of Being a Wallflower; great book. I think it's the meaning of it, the fact that when your a teenager everything seems good in the world. Reality hasnt hit us yet. As we grow not only do we learn more but we also realize more. We arrive in a state of conscience, we may like it or we may not. It's a matter of personal strength. Can you fall into peer presure or can you beat it, and in the end are you strong enough for the down fall? I can fall into peer presure alot. I make sure that I want to do it before actually doing it but I can ralate to the charector in this book.

Reactions to Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis is a crazy book to me but a good crazy. The type of good that makes you not want to put it down and keep turning the pages to find out what is going to happen next. The first thing that was crazy to me was Gregor was transformed into an insect and he was so calm about it! I know that if I was an insect I would not be that calm about it and work would be the last of my worries. One thing I found interesting was that in Kafka Franz life that he was not able to bring home the bacon every night. He was not making a lof of money and was stuggling painter. I connected this to the book; When Gregor was freaking out about not being able to get to work on time and that he need to pay off his debts. In a way this is just like Kafka's life. Unable to bring home money/Unable to get to work soon leading to unable to bring home money.

For children all over the world who want to get like me, I will start you off with a few things you should know!

1. My interests: sleeping, hanging out with friends, swimming, playing COD and not walking my dog!
2. My after school plans: well I am now attending McFarland High School but have decided to go to MATC for nursing!
3. My favorite book, movie and musician: book would be The Color Purple. My favorite movie would be Hangover (someday hope to have a night like that) I don't really have a favorite musician, i enjoy all type of music!
